Dragon Registration is still working in Catalina How many different computers can I have my version of Dragon activated on? You can activate your version, but when you get to this screen below you will have to do skip because the registration does not work. If anyone finds that this stops working please let me know! I have done this multiple times and can confirm that it works. This means that you can deactivate your version of Dragon on one computer and then activate it using the same serial number on a different computer. Dragon technical support are saying that it no longer works in Catalina but I was able to verify that it does work (see the screenshot below that I just took today – June 2020). The activation engine is still working in Catalina. If I buy a new computer can I transfer my version of Dragon across to it from my old computer? I am running Dragon on a 2020 4 port thunderbolt i7 MacBook Pro. It will work on any OS including Big Sur on an intel Mac (i5, i7) but not on a newer M1 Mac. I currently have Dragon version 6 working on my 2015 MacBook Pro as well as my 2018 Mac Mini, both running Catalina. In fact, ironically, Dragon 6.0.8 Running under Catalina is the most stable version of Dragon that I have ever owned! So if you already have Dragon installed you can upgrade to Catalina and it should keep working. Yes the latest version of Dragon is 64 bit and works fine with Catalina. (Or switching to a PC so as to have access to Dragon again.) Will Dragon work with Catalina? All we have left is the possibility of keeping our current version going as long as we can. Given the level of difficulty that Apple have caused Nuance, it seems unlikely that it will return anytime soon. But as it stands, there is no longer a version of Dragon for OSX being developed. I do not believe he would have allowed this to happen under his watch without either buying Nuance out or developing their own version of Siri used for dictation. Steve Jobs was an advocate for the advancement of all kinds of creative technologies. This is indeed a sad say, not just because of the loss of speech recognition but because this goes against everything Apple stood for. And I have sadly watched Nuance’s growing frustration with Apple that finally led them to stop supporting the OSX version of Dragon last year. I have heard this story again and again from developers who are trying to work with active. He had two lawyers in the room and was very limited to what he could say, I assume it was because of fear of being sued by Apple. ![]() ![]() Not long before they stopped developing their Apple product a senior developer from Nuance contacted me to speak about their growing frustration with Apple. Since then Dragon has slowly but surely improved, with better accuracy and better stability with every release. Ten years ago Dragon finally arrived on the Apple Macintosh platform. It is a process of putting the plaster on the entire wall without any use of plasterboard. The owners of old houses used to choose this option because of its long-lasting nature, and for this reason, it is still a popular choice in the market. Wet plastering is a technique that was widely used by skilled plasterers before the concept of plasterboard came in. Furthermore, the hollow thump plasterboard produces when knocked can be off-putting for many people. Dry lining is also very poor at sound insulation, especially when no soundproof material is installed in the plasterboard. This is somewhat protected by the layers of plaster, but a fully wet plastered wall is a much stronger alternative. Plasterboard can also be very easily damaged. While it is often possible to recycle plasterboard, it can be difficult to find places to recycle it, so most plasterboards will usually end up in a landfill. One of the dry lining drawbacks is the use of synthetic insulating material, which cannot be recycled economically. Some people prefer wet plastering as it has more texture and character than drylining. Many would also argue that drylining walls are less attractive when painted. While they do have the layers of plaster on the surface to increase the strength and durability, it still does not produce the same effects as a full wet plastered wall. The main drawback of dry lining is that the finished walls lack the solidity and sturdiness of wet plastered walls. However, when wet plastering is performed by a skilled plasterer, cracks are less likely to develop. This can save time and money from needing to get walls replastered in the long run. Dry-lining is also less likely to develop cracks than wet plaster.Because its use is now so widespread, plasterboard is readily available now and there are plenty of tradesmen who can produce dry lining walls. This makes dry lining a safe and effective method. Water permeability is very low, and the materials used to build the plasterboards are non-toxic.This is especially good for those living in colder climates where heat retention is essential. As previously mentioned, dry lining often adds a layer of insulation to your home, which reduces heat loss and lowers your energy bill over time. This also means dry lining is quicker than traditional plastering. One of the significant benefits of drylining is that it is easy to install, hence saving you substantial labour cost.Sometimes a joint and tape technique is used, but skimming with wet plaster is far more widely used as it produces a much nicer finish. A fibreglass mesh tape is then used at the fastening points, walls and corners.įinally, three layers of joint compound are used to provide a nice smooth finish and ensure the wall is suitable for painting. They are then fastened to a wooden framing where the wall is going to be. By the 1960s, many places had jumped to 60-amp panels. ![]() For instance, you had houses in the first half of the 20 th Century with 30-amp panels. The size matters because it affects the devices you can run on that electrical service.Įlectrical services were so much smaller in the past. You have to select the electrical service carefully. If you check the panel, it will tell you the total capacity of the electrical service. But if two bus bars connect to a branch circuit, it can access 240 volts. If the branch circuit connects to one bus bar, you will get 120 volts of power. You can determine the voltage of each branch circuit by looking at the number of bus bars to which it is connected. The panel has a pair of bus bars that provide 120V each. The panel distributes the electricity from the wires to the other branch circuits. Regardless of where they pass, these wires will eventually stop at the service panel. Most homes have two 120V service wires that will either pass overhead or underground.
